Wash yuh foot and jump een - Me Made May 2014

Eh, you guys. I didn't think I was going to take part in Me Made May - I mean, I have what, 10 handmade garments? But what the heck, I'm a joiner. And it's an awesome idea, backed by this amazing and inspiring online sewing community, and thankfully for a total newbie like me, you can make of the challenge what you will. Also, it made the Guardian. I will do almost anything the Guardian tells me to. Almost.

But I digress. I'm in.

'I, Ellebougies, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May '14. I endeavour to wear each of my handmade garments as much as possible, differently styled, during May 2014'

You'll notice I haven't set myself any actual numerical goals there - that really seemed like just setting myself up with so few handmade garments to put into regular rotation, though I definitely plan to wear each one at least twice. But for me this is really about thoughtfully (and hopefully, stylishly) fully incorporating them into the rest of my wardrobe. As well as taking the opportunity to continue to examine how my wardrobe works with my life, what gaps there are (layers, layers, wretched transitional weather layers), and calculate how many years it will take me to fill them at my snail's sewing pace.

I'm not going to be crowding this space with daily or weekly or however frequently selfies. I'll save that for Instaspam. I may instead do a post summing up the experience, sometime at the start of next month, when I'm back from my tropical holiday (where outfit "styling" will no doubt consist of "thrown over a different bikini, worn with slightly different sandals" - dear god this holiday cannot arrive soon enough, and if you're not jealous, well you should be). But I digress.

May we all have a well-dressed May!
